Single parents: Tracking the effects of the coronavirus pandemic
Gingerbread and Institute for Employment Studies
At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, there was little consideration of its potential impact on single parents. This research sought to fill this gap, focusing on single parent workers who were not defined as 'essential workers' and so were likely to face the greatest challenges in terms of needing to work and care simultaneously during this period. Issues including furlough, job security and self-isolation are discussed and recommendations are given regarding the importance of considering the particular needs of single parent families in the recovery following the pandemic.
